TEACHER’S TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT: UTOPIA AND REALITY

In the Primary, Secondary and Higher education the training and development of teachers is far from corresponding to the current needs of the school or to the requirements of its reform. Based on a brief analysis of the contemporary global crisis, this paper highlights not only the role played by education as a necessary utopia to answer the uncertainties of the future but also the essential guidelines to carry out the reinvention of school as a place where students are prepared to become responsible citizens. Consequently it is argued that the existing teacher’s training and development should be completely revised;at the same time it is put forward essential ethical principles and values on which the revision should be based. Finally, a project aimed at defining a nuclear scheme for the teacher’s training and development is presented and justified.
