IN SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS LEADINGTO INTERCULTURAL INTERVENTION

The training of teachers in a multicultural field should be done in such a way as to change the pedagogic attitudes of students, creating a positive atmosphere within the school. The teacher training experiment that this paper refers to, intends to raise awareness to the necessity of acquiring skills to interact with students that bring certain "differences" with them to the class. A questionaire was used to evaluate this point, this questionaire in turn revealed that most teachers questioned are confronted with students that require a multicultural pedagogic intervention. On the other hand, it is also revealed that teachers felt there were considerable barriers which hampered or sometimes even made it impossible to cater for the specific requirements of such students. The student teachers also considered important the frequent/existence of workshops geared toward multicultural intervention.
